All are invited to attend this special visit with The Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Quire, Jr Bishop of the Liberia Conference on Tuesday, September 26 from 6:30-8pm at Northlawn UMC (1157 Northlawn NE, Grand Rapids, 49505). Bishop Quire was elected to the episcopacy in December 2016. He has served as Administrative Assistant to both Bishop John Innis and interim Bishop Arthur Kulah, and was the first Director of the Bishop Judith Craig Children’s Village. Bishop Quire will talk about his priorities for Liberia, with a question and answer session to follow.

Bishop Quire will speak about his priority areas for the Liberia episcopacy for the current quadrennial, 2017 – 2020. The plan was developed by a strategic planning committee after these questions were asked at the 184th Session of the Liberia Annual Conference:

  • Where are we as a Church?
  • Where do we want to go as a Church?
  • How do we get there as a Church?

The Detroit Conference has been in a covenant relationship since 1997 with the Liberia Conference, and this covenant will continue in the new Michigan Conference. Questions? Please contact the GR District Office grdistrict@wmcumc.org or 616.459.4503 x-1211.

Church copyright is a topic every church needs to understand well, because the legal and ethical issues that can result from noncompliance are not insignificant. We’ll be exploring the essential copyright laws related to use of music, worship streaming and podcasts, and the use of images in church communications. In addition, we’ll look briefly at some affordable, easy, and truly useful communications design and organization tools for church staff members.

Our keynote speaker will be Tim Gossett, Director of Discipleship at Collegiate UMC and Wesley Foundation of Ames, Iowa. You may email Tim (tim@cwames.org) any particular questions you have about copyright and/or church tech tools. He will do his best to cover these questions during his presentation.
