The Heartland District Conference will be held Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 am-3:30 pm at Carson City UMC (119 E. Elm St., Carson City, MI). Dr. Matthew Hook, Pastor at Dexter UMC will be the special guest speaker focusing on “Discipleship.” A Ministry Fair will also be featured throughout the day with several local churches/groups present to discuss their ministries and how your church can start some similar projects in your area. The Blue Water District (BWD) Conference and Training Day will be held together this year. For the first time! The schedule for the day is as follows.
8:30 am: Registration
9:00 am: Opening
9:15 am: Session 1
10:15 am: Session 2
11:15 am: Session 3
12:00 pm: Lunch
Lunch will be available for a small fee ($5).
1:00 pm: District Conference
2:00 pm: Keynote Speaker – Rev. Dr. Jerry DeVine, Detroit Conference Director of Connectional Ministies
2:45 pm: Communion and Closing
The classes available during each session are:
Church Finance: In this session, you will learn how to set up proper church books and how to handle your legal requirements. You will also receive information on possible tax credits, requirements for annual giving receipts, and much more.
United Methodist Foundation (UMF): What is the UMF and how can they work both the local church and it’s members. They help set up endowment funds and also help with church and personal budgets as well as investing.
Camping and Retreats: Come learn about what resources for camping and retreats are available for our membership and churches.
Finding Time for Fitness: Rev. Matt Osborne, pastor of Sandusky: First UMC, will share his personal weight loss journey. How did he do it? How did his faith assist him in his journey?
Parish Nursing Ministry: Parish nurses are licensed, registered nurses who practice holistic health for self, individuals and the community using nursing knowledge combined with spiritual care. They function in paid and unpaid positions as members of the pastoral team in a variety of religious faiths, cultures, and countries.
Building Healthy Relationships: Our keynote speaker will be teaching about building healthy relationships in our communities including reaching out to those who are different from us and being aware of our differences.
