GR Metro Ministry Annual Meeting & Hands-On Ministry Showcase

Hands-On Ministry Showcase and Annual Meeting

Grand Rapids Metro Ministry invites you to their annual meeting at La Nueva Esperanza on Tuesday, Oct 24. Dinner will be served at 6pm followed by a program at 7pm. The program will showcase a number of the UMC related ministries that are doing work right here in the Grand Rapids area such as:

  • Thrive: A Refugee Support Program
  • Justice For Our Neighbors
  • Circles Grand Rapids
  • Reading is Fundamental of Greater Grand Rapids
  • Native American Elders Program
  • Community Ministries at Trinity UMC

This is a GREAT opportunity to learn about the work being done locally and how you can get involved. Plus, it’s a great way to network with all the wonderful folks who are working to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the Grand Rapids area.

After the program, we will hold the business portion of the Grand Rapids Metro Ministry meeting where we will vote on our Board of Directors and budget. Per our bylaws, all United Methodist Churches in the Greater Grand Rapids area are eligible to vote at our annual meeting. Each church may designate one person to vote on behalf of their congregation.

This 5-day, 32-hour training includes lectures, discussion, and guided

practice in role-plays. Active and practical in focus, the sessions

emphasize hands-on skills training and real-life role-plays based on

the kinds of conflicts faced by participants. This training is useful for

all kinds of church leaders at both local and judicatory levels.

Candidacy Summit Weekends – 2017

Save the Date:

Candidacy Summit weekends in 2017 for the Cabinet and Conference calendars. Two weekends (Friday and Saturday):  January 27-28, and July 28-29, 2017. Both will be at the St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt.

GR District Clergy Family Picnic

Open picnic shelter B has been reserved for the Clergy Family picnic and it’s reserved from 7am until sunset! So, if you’d like to bring the family to the splash pad for the day, or hike or bike the more than 20 miles of trails, please feel free to park near shelter B and use it as your hub! Millennium Park parking is free and the splash pad is $4 for adults and $2 for kids. More info is here → Millennium Park

We will eat dinner around 6pm with folks gathering anytime during the afternoon. Meat for grilling, buns, condiments along with napkins, utensils, cups and beverages are provided by the district.

MI Area Order of Elders Day with the Bishop

Our focus will be on the covenant of the Order of Elders as we grow in relationship with Bishop Bard and one another throughout Michigan. We will have time in worship and prayer, learning and inspiration, connecting and looking forward. The Order of Elders can be an important part of our covenant relationship. We want all Elders to feel included in the planning for future events and gatherings.

Lunch will be provided. Please note any dietary restrictions through registration.

Parking at Midland First UMC will be off-site. Shuttles will transport participants from the parking lot to the church.

Instructions will go out to all participants a week before the event.

The deadline for registration is April 17, 2017, the day after Easter.

The Order of Elders Day with the Bishop is not a mandatory called clergy session, however, your presence is valuable and greatly appreciated. All ordained clergy become members of an order upon election to full membership and are to participate in the order.

Blue Water District Clergy Retreat

Sonya Luna, Michigan Area Director of Latino and Hispanic Ministries, and Rev. Paul Perez, Detroit Conference Director for Mission and Justice Engagement and Leadership Recruitment, will be the guest speakers. Join Rev. Elizabeth Hill, Blue Water District Superintendent, and our speakers as they share information and tools on “Meeting Your Neighbors Where They Are And Check Your Isms At The Door.”

Cost includes lodging (with towels and linens) for the night and meals (dinner Monday, breakfast, and lunch on Tuesday). Bring your favorite snack to share. Reservation for:

  • 4 to 6 per room $81 per person.
  • 3 per room $92 per person.
  • 2 per room $103 per person.
  • 1 person in room $128 per person (First come first serve. So register early.)

Changing Churches: “saying goodbye & saying hello”

April 18-19, 2017

This workshop focuses on helping pastors & church leaders manage the “pastoral transition.”

The workshop is divided into parts:

  • How the departing pastor says “goodbye” to his/her existing congregation
  • How the incoming pastor says “hello” to his/her new congregation

It will address issues related to pastoral transition

  • Who to tell and when
  • Managing the emotions of five groups
  • The incoming/ departing pastor dance
  • The First 100 Days
  • Conducting a “Listening Tour”
  • Strategic Preaching in the 1st Year

Fee:

  • $25.00 for Michigan residents
  • $149.00 for out of state residents

April 19, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Cancellation Policies

Participant Cancellation/Transfer

If you cannot attend a Griffith Coaching workshop for which you are registered, you must cancel no later than two (2) weeks prior to the course date to receive a full refund. If you cancel less than two (2) weeks before the workshop start date, you will not receive a refund.

If you register for a Griffith Coaching workshop and need to transfer to a different course date, you can do so by contacting Griffith Coaching at least two (2) weeks prior to the course date you originally registered for. Griffith Coaching will not accept any transfer requests less than two (2) weeks before the workshop start date.

GR District Clergy Forum: Spiritual Care at the Very End of Life

Program: Spiritual Care at the Very End of Life

Are you not sure what to do or to say when your parishioner is pre-actively or actively dying?  How do you support both your parishioner and their family in such a tender and holy time?  Jan Lancaster, RN, is a UMC deacon appointed to Emmanuel Hospice, a faith-based hospice in Grand Rapids.  Please join her for education and discussion about the signs of the active phase of dying and the spiritual interventions you can provide, including conversation, prayer, scripture, anointing, and communion.
