ALBION DISTRICT VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION SCHOLARSHIP

The Albion District has a long history of mission involvement.  Several of our churches have been ardent supporters and participants in the V.I.M. (Volunteers in Mission) program.  Our District Mission Team and our District Leadership Team is challenging the Albion District to raise money to establish an Albion District V.I.M. Scholarship.

The Scholarship would enable a person who has the desire, but not the income, to become a part of a V.I.M. team experience.  Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 by the time we hold our Farewell Celebration.  Our District will match one dollar for every dollar contributed by our churches.  $10,000 would then become $20,000!

If we raise over $10,000 then we will still match dollar for dollar.  Donations will establish an endowment fund that will insure a long-lasting legacy in the name of the Albion District.

You may bring your gift to the Albion District V.I.M  Grant to the celebration or mail it to the Albion District Office. Please make the check out to UNITED METHODIST FOUNDATION and in the memo write ALBION DISTRICT VIM GRANT.

GUEST PRESENTER: Rev. Jeff Nelson

TOPIC – The Church and Social Media

One of the new tools for mission and ministry are our cell phones.  No longer do we ask people to politely turn off their cell phones at the start of the service.  In fact, now we should be asking them to turn them on.  We should be asking them or use their smart phones and social media networks to check in, capture, collect and invite others into the work or our congregations.

Jeff Nelson, lead pastor at Royal Oak First United Methodist, had used social media effectively to expand the mission and ministry of his local churches.  He has developed some simple and easy practices that all pastors can use to engage their congregation and community in the transforming work of the church in the world.
